The difference between active fire protection and passive fire protection

Active Fire Protection: Systems that are activated after a fire breaks out, responsible for detection, alarm, and suppression.

Includes: smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, fire hydrants, etc.

Passive Fire Protection: Safety measures that are put in place before a fire occurs, designed to contain and slow the spread of flames and smoke.

Includes: firewalls, fire-rated doors, fire-resistant building materials, and the critically important firestop systems!
